Jim Blake a life of service to the School and others
James Joshua Blake was born in 1904 and started at Wesley in 1917.
He loved Wesley. After he left school he came back to talk to LA Adamson regularly about sport, art and current events. He contributed two sections to Felix Meyer’s biography of Adamson. It was a favourable review of this book and Blake’s writing that led him to journalism, and he is perhaps best known as a reporter for the Herald and Sporting Globe, focusing on Sport in general and school sports in particular. He reported on the Olympics, VFL, AFL and school matches, covering football, cricket and Head of the River races, which were attended by thousands of people.
He was the instigator of the Good Friday Appeal for the Children's Hospital which continues to raise funds today.
He received many accolades in his life, including a British Empire Medal for journalism depicted here.
Jim loved sport, was devoted to the Children’s Hospital, to Wesley College and his sister Molly. His legacy continues to live through the contributions he made to the School and the Children’s Hospital.
