Principal of Elsternwick M.L.C. from 1961 to 1972

Educated at M.L.C. Hawthorn, during which she became Joint Head Prefect and Proxime Accessit to Dux of the College, Mrs, McCarthy has given many years of love and work to M.L.C. and devoted herself to the M.L.C. ideal, as well as upholding its traditions. During her twelve years as Principal, the school has enjoyed many new changes and achievements. In 1961, when the Fred J. Cato branch of Hawthorn M.L.C. became officially known as Elsternwick M.L.C., many alterations were made to assert the College's new independence. The M.L.C. badge and motto were retained but with the inclusion of "Elsternwick", gold was introduced into the silver and green colours, and the magazine was renamed "Coolaroo"
