Philip came to Wesley as a 7 year old in 1920, his younger brother George came 2 years later in 1922 aged 5. Both were boarders. Their father Philip Wirth, together with their uncle George, ran the Wirth's Circus, located at what is now the Arts Centre and Hamer Hall. The family business was the circus, which toured nationally and internationally until it was destroyed by fire in 1953, finally relinquishing the site in 1963.
There are collections of memorabilia held at the Power House Museum Sydney and the Performing Arts Museum Melbourne
Today there is a mosaic plaque on the wall to commemorate the presence and contribution of Wirth's Circus to our cultural life.
Philip came from 1920-1928 and George came from 1922 to 1930.
