It was the boarders who formed the first Lawn Tennis club at Wesley in 1882. The courts were created from the cricket pitch on the front turf and played when it was not cricket season. A prospectus in 1893 boasted a full sized asphalt tennis court, and a photo appears in the Prospectus of 1904. As time went on there were a total of 4 courts over the school grounds.
The boys paid an extra 5 shillings per term to access all sporting equipment to cover cricket, football, rowing at Albert Park lake and tennis.
The earliest existing photo of a team was taken in 1928.
