About Swimming

The first swimming was in 1896, when the boys went to the St Kilda Baths for lessons and to play in the sea water. Lessons were free and the boys were encouraged to learn to swim. 

In 1935 Wesley's own pool was opened, as part of the rebuilding of the College. In the tradition of the ancient Olympic Games the boys swam in the nude. This continued up until the 1960s.
