Max Corry (1957) was the leader of the smallest Australian Winter party of only four. They spent the 1968 winter on the Amery ice shelf, burying themselves in the snow for protection from the weather. Thus they were nicknamed “the Amery Troglodytes”, a name that still holds to this day. He was awarded the Imperial Polar Medal for his work, and has been an active member of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions Club, and a past President. Their only communication was via Morse code to Mawson station.
