He was sent to England and visited admiralty dockyards. He came out in one of the new Australian cruisers and had been on active service, including twice to New Guinea with the fleet. On his last visit there he contracted a slight attack of malaria and had received leave of absence in consequence. Accidentally killed when a horse unseated and dragged him in Epping Road, Preston.
